Detox Teas

The body’s natural detoxification systems – the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, and digestive tract – work continuously to filter and eliminate waste. Tea has been used for thousands of years as a natural companion to this process, and modern research increasingly supports what traditional herbalism has long understood: that certain teas and botanicals can meaningfully support the body’s own cleansing mechanisms. Our detox collection at Teapro brings together premium loose-leaf teas and herbal infusions chosen for their liver-supportive, antioxidant-rich, and cleansing properties, spanning all caffeine levels.

what does “detox tea” actually mean?

The word “detox” is used loosely in wellness culture, so it is worth being clear about what we mean here. The body detoxifies itself continuously – the liver processes toxins for elimination, the kidneys filter the blood, the lymphatic system clears cellular waste, and the digestive tract removes what the body does not need. These are ongoing, autonomous processes that do not require special intervention.
What tea can do is support these systems – providing antioxidants that protect the liver from oxidative stress, botanical compounds that promote healthy bile production and digestive function, diuretic properties that support kidney filtration, and anti-inflammatory compounds that reduce the systemic burden that impairs natural detoxification. The teas in this collection work with the body rather than claiming to replace its own mechanisms.

what does detox tea taste like?

The flavour range across our detox collection is broad and genuinely varied – reflecting the diversity of plants and tea styles included.
Aged Sheng Pu-erh is earthy, woody, and complex – one of the deepest and most distinctive flavour experiences in the tea world. Matcha is rich, creamy, and umami-forward. Jasmine Green is delicate and floral. Shou Mei white tea is mellow and gently honeyed.
On the herbal side, Hibiscus is tart and vivid. Lemongrass is bright and citrusy. Glow Up Bamboo Rose is lightly floral and refreshing. BodyBoost and TrimTonic are herbal blends with a more complex, layered character. African Padauk Bark produces a distinctive, warming, earthy brew with a long history of traditional use. Whatever kind of detox support you are looking for, there is a flavour in this collection to match.

how do the teas in this collection support detoxification?

Each tea works through a different mechanism, and the collection as a whole covers a wide range of detox-supporting pathways.
Matcha and Green Tea: Exceptionally rich in EGCG and catechins – antioxidants strongly associated with liver health, reduced oxidative stress, and metabolic support. Green tea is one of the most studied natural compounds for liver-protective properties.
Pu-erh Tea (Aged Sheng): Fermented and aged, pu-erh contains unique bioactive compounds including statins and polyphenols associated with lipid metabolism, digestive support, and liver function. It has a centuries-long tradition of use in China specifically for digestive and metabolic health.
White Tea (Shou Mei): High in polyphenols and minimally processed, white tea preserves a full spectrum of natural antioxidants that support cellular protection and the body’s own cleansing processes.
Hibiscus: Rich in anthocyanins and organic acids associated with liver protection, blood pressure regulation, and diuretic properties that support kidney filtration.
Lemongrass: Contains citral and other compounds associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and mild diuretic effects – traditionally used to support digestive cleansing.
Bamboo Leaf (Glow Up Bamboo Rose): High in silica and flavonoids, bamboo leaf is associated with connective tissue support and gentle internal cleansing.
BodyBoost and TrimTonic: Purposely blended herbal teas combining botanicals chosen for their combined detox-supporting, metabolic, and digestive properties.
African Padauk Bark: A traditional African botanical with a long history of use for liver and blood cleansing – rich in flavonoids and used in folk medicine across multiple African cultures for its purifying properties.

how to brew detox tea

Brewing guidance varies by tea type, but all are straightforward to prepare.
Matcha and green teas: 70-80°C, 1-2 minutes
White tea (Shou Mei): 75-80°C, 2-3 minutes
Pu-erh (Aged Sheng): 90-100°C, 2-3 minutes – re-steepable multiple times
Herbal teas (hibiscus, lemongrass, bamboo, BodyBoost, TrimTonic, African Padauk Bark): 90-100°C, 5-10 minutes

what caffeine levels are available?

Our detox collection spans the full caffeine spectrum. Matcha and green teas contain moderate-to-high caffeine. Pu-erh and white tea are in the low-to-medium range. Hibiscus, lemongrass, bamboo leaf, BodyBoost, TrimTonic, and African Padauk Bark are all naturally caffeine-free.
This means you can support your body’s natural detox processes at any time of day – with an energising matcha in the morning, a soothing white tea in the afternoon, or a deeply relaxing hibiscus or lemongrass brew in the evening.

can you cold brew detox tea?

Yes – green tea, white tea, and hibiscus are all excellent cold-brewed, and retain their full antioxidant and detox-supporting properties when prepared this way. Cold brewing also reduces bitterness and produces a naturally smooth, refreshing drink.
Add 4g of tea to 500ml of cold water and steep in the fridge for 6-8 hours.
Cold-brewed hibiscus is particularly vivid and refreshing – a naturally tart, antioxidant-rich drink that works beautifully over ice and needs no sweetener.

is detox tea good for beginners?

Many of the most effective teas in this collection are also the most approachable. Hibiscus, lemongrass, and Glow Up Bamboo Rose are naturally caffeine-free, immediately pleasant, and require no specialist knowledge to brew well.
For those ready to explore further, aged Sheng pu-erh and matcha offer a more complex experience and a deeper level of detox support – both genuinely rewarding teas that become more interesting the more attention you bring to them.
