what is caffeine-free tea?
Caffeine-free teas are made from plants other than Camellia sinensis – the plant responsible for black, green, white, and oolong teas. Because they come from different botanicals entirely, they contain no caffeine naturally.
This is different from decaffeinated tea, which starts as a true tea and has its caffeine chemically removed – a process that can strip flavour alongside the stimulant. Everything in this collection is caffeine-free from the start, with nothing added and nothing taken away.
what does caffeine-free tea taste like?
The flavour range is enormous – far wider than many people expect. Herbal teas can be floral, earthy, minty, fruity, spiced, or deeply soothing depending on the botanicals used.
Chamomile is gentle and honey-sweet. Peppermint is clean and cooling. Rooibos is naturally sweet and warming with a soft vanilla-like quality. Greek mountain tea (sideritis) is earthy and herbaceous, with centuries of traditional use behind it.
If you think herbal tea means bland, our range will change your mind.
how to brew caffeine-free tea
Most herbal teas are more forgiving to brew than true teas – no risk of bitterness from high temperatures or long steeping times.
Water temperature: 95-100°C
Amount: 1-2 teaspoons per 300ml
Steep time: 5-7 minutes
Infusions: Most herbal teas are best enjoyed as a single infusion, though robust varieties like rooibos and Greek mountain tea can handle a second steep.
what are the health benefits of caffeine-free tea?
Many herbal teas have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, and modern research is increasingly substantiating those uses. Chamomile is widely studied for its calming and sleep-supporting properties. Peppermint is known to support digestion and ease bloating. Rooibos is rich in antioxidants and has been linked to heart health and reduced inflammation.
Greek mountain tea, one of our favourites, has been used across the Mediterranean for generations and is associated with immune support, cognitive health, and longevity. The specific benefits vary by botanical – browse individual product pages for more detail on each.

is caffeine-free tea good for sleep?
Yes – and it’s one of the best reasons to explore herbal teas. Chamomile contains apigenin, a compound that binds to receptors in the brain associated with sleep and relaxation. Valerian root, lemon balm, and passionflower are also well-regarded for their calming properties.
Building an evening tea ritual around a caffeine-free herbal blend is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support healthy sleep hygiene – without any of the disruption that even low-caffeine teas can cause close to bedtime.
can you cold brew caffeine-free tea?
Absolutely – and fruit blends in particular are exceptional cold-brewed. Add 4g of tea to 500ml of cold water and steep in the fridge for 4-6 hours.
The result is a naturally sweet, vibrant drink with no bitterness and no added sugar. Peppermint cold-brewed over ice is also a revelation on a warm day.
is caffeine-free tea good for beginners?
It’s one of the most approachable places to start. There’s no risk of bitterness from incorrect brewing, the flavours are familiar and varied, and the ritual of making and drinking a proper loose leaf herbal tea is immediately rewarding.
At Teapro, every caffeine-free tea in our range is pure and single-ingredient or clearly listed – no artificial flavourings, no mystery botanicals. What’s on the label is exactly what’s in your cup.
