What inspired you to become a wedding planner?

I’m a creative soul with a slight obsession for organisation so planning and designing weddings spoke to all my best qualities from the very start. I began in the events industry at a wedding venue and branched out on my own shortly after. And now, knowing I have the skills and expertise to bring someone’s wedding dreams to life and then seeing all our hard work and planning pay off on the client’s big day is what makes my job so rewarding.

What’s your favourite wedding trend at the moment?

Colour! It’s safe to say we’re slowly moving away from the traditional green & white or white & blush colour palettes. Couples are now much more open to incorporating colour into their wedding day which is the best news for us as planners. Colour is one of the easiest and most effective ways to inject the couple’s personality into their wedding design, and it often results in a more unique experience for guests (who are typically attending 2-3 weddings a year).

If you’re not keen on bright or bold colour palettes, remember there are also tonal and pastel colour combinations that always look gorgeous when used within a wedding. One of my favourites is tonal shades of blush and lilac paired with a neutral beige or taupe base tone, which we used at an autumn wedding in London last year, you can view it here

What advice would you give to newly engaged couples?

One of the first things I do with my clients is figure out their priorities for the day and based on this we decide how we’re going to utilise their budget (this is also where we typically come up with a more realistic figure for their budget). I do this by having clients fill out a comprehensive questionnaire followed by an in-depth meeting where we talk through their options, but you can do this yourselves by listing out every detail of the wedding and deciding which items matter to you most (hint: this is where you should prioritise your spending!).

Getting your priorities and rough budget allocations in order is key for easier decision-making during your planning process. If you’re not sure how much venues or suppliers charge in your area, request sample or estimate quotes to build a rough budget – do not base your budget on the ‘average wedding budgets’ listed on wedding blogs (think of it like this: if you googled ‘average house prices in the UK’ and compared this against the cost of your own home, there would likely be quite a difference – weddings are exactly the same).

Only after a couple and I have completed this first crucial step of outlining priorities and a budget plan do we start looking at booking their venue. Your venue along with catering are among your biggest wedding expenses and need to be aligned with your budget from the start, otherwise you could be setting yourself up for unexpected budget increases later in the planning.

What inspired you to become a wedding planner?

I decided to become a wedding planner after planning my own wedding on the Isle of Wight. It was a full weekend wedding and total dry hire venue which meant I had to source and set up absolutely everything from tables to dance floor to lighting but it was amazing because it meant we could have whatever wedding we wanted and weren’t restricted by anything other than budget!

After this I couldn’t imagine never planning a wedding again so knew I wanted to be a wedding planner. I think for me the main reason I love it is because I get to know couples and help them have a completely stress free day where they have no worries in the world, which was something I didn’t have at my own wedding as I didn’t hire a wedding planner.

It’s an amazing feeling to see the happiness on a couples face throughout their day at something you’ve helped to create and made so perfect for them! Weddings are such special days and I never plan the same wedding twice which makes it all the more exciting each time!

What’s your favourite wedding trend at the moment?

I LOVE all the bold coloured weddings at the moment, especially within the flowers. I think its so refreshing to see couples choose bigger and bolder colour palettes for their wedding days, it gives the wedding such impact and the photos look gorgeous!

Another thing I’m so pleased to see is couples moving away from traditions that don’t suit them and finding other ways to represent themselves as a couple in their wedding, I think its so important to have your wedding YOUR way.

What advice would you give to newly engaged couples?

Budget, Budget, Budget! Sort out what your budget is going to be for the wedding, have those awkward discussions with parents to ask if they were hoping to contribute and how much that would be straight away.

So many people put it off and then get lost in instagram and pinterest looking at weddings that they realistically can’t afford which only ends in disappointment. Before looking at any suppliers make sure you know what your budget is so you know you’re looking at ones you can afford!

Once that’s sorted its so much easier to narrow down venues, caterers, photographers etc.

Are you a rebel at heart and want your wedding to be true to your beautiful untamed spirit? Then Jodie is the perfect wedding planner for you!

What inspired you to become a wedding planner?

I became a wedding planner because I absolutely loved all the organising and lists it entailed and I’m a big believer in love for all, no matter who you are or who you identify as.

What’s your favourite wedding trend at the moment?

My favourite trend every year is doing you! Making your weddings as personal as you can and having the choice to make the day yours. It’s your day, so do it your way!

What advice would you give to newly engaged couples?

My advice for newly engaged couples would be to take your time. Enjoy the process, you don’t need to rush into the planning just yet, make the most of that newly engaged feeling. Then when you feel ready I would sit down together and work out your priorities for the day and then the nice to have can come later.

What inspired you to become a wedding planner?

When discussing what career path I should explore having grown bored of the banking and retail world I’d worked in previously, my boyfriend (now husband) turned to me whilst walking along the beach in Nairn and said… ‘what about wedding planning?’. The seed was planted and I never looked back!

What’s your favourite wedding trend at the moment?

You do you. It’s really as simple as that really. I’m a big believer in encouraging couples to celebrate in a way that is true to them and their relationship and if that happens to be in keeping with that year’s current trend then great, go for it! But don’t end up following trends for the sake of it, especially if it’s not really your thing.

What advice would you give to newly engaged couples?

Enjoy being engaged and take your time before diving straight into wedding planning. Remember your wedding is not the end goal, but rather the starting point of your married life together, enter into the planning in a way you want to carry on as a team in life together. Discuss what’s important to both of you and get real about your budget and financial situation. Money will be a key deciding factor on all the decisions you make about your wedding… size of wedding, the venue etc etc, so it’s crucial to have an upfront and honest conversation about this and decide together, before starting your planning in earnest.

What inspired you to become a wedding planner?

After planning my own multicultural wedding in 2017, I always knew I wanted to be involved in helping more couples to plan their wedding. My husband is of Indian heritage and during the planning we realised how important it was for us to incorporate both cultures into our special day. I found it a struggle trying to plan and organise the intricacies of a wedding with two cultural backgrounds. So, we decided to have two separate celebrations and really dedicate each day to the traditions and customs of each culture. I knew there must be more couples out there like us who were planning multiple wedding events and trying to fuse different cultures and traditions together, so whilst I was on maternity leave, I decided to take the plunge and start my own business! I haven’t looked back since!

What’s your favourite wedding trend at the moment?

Vibrant, bold colour! Pantone’s colour of 2023 is Viva Magenta and I am SO here for it! I’m already a huge fan of this shade anyway, but I am seeing more couples embrace bolder colour in their wedding palettes, moving away from the blush pinks and sage greens that we’ve seen previously. I am also seeing more couples embrace clashing colours, so for instance, pinks and oranges, which I also love. Injecting a bit of colour into your wedding just makes the whole vibe more fun, impactful and relaxed.

What advice would you give to newly engaged couples?

Firstly, take a moment to enjoy being engaged. It’s easy to get lost in the excitement of wedding planning, but once you start, this will be all you live and breathe for a while, so take the time to just enjoy the newly engaged phase. And next, I always advise couples to work out their absolute must haves for their wedding day – the things that are absolutely non-negotiable and then also the things that would be nice to have if budget allows. This gives a clear understanding of the couple’s priorities and is something I always refer back to throughout the planning to ensure we’re remembering what is most important to the couple at all times. I am all about making sure a wedding day reflects them as a couple and tells their unique love story.
