Matcha Scoop FAQs

A Chashaku is a traditional Japanese bamboo scoop used to portion Matcha powder. While not strictly essential, it offers consistent measurements and adds authenticity to the Matcha-making ritual.

One Chashaku scoop holds about 1 gram of Matcha – roughly half a teaspoon. A standard cup of Matcha usually requires 2 scoops (2 grams).

Not quite. A Chashaku delivers a smaller, more precise amount – ideal for ceremonial use. A teaspoon can work in a pinch, but the Chashaku’s curved design is gentler on delicate Matcha powder.

Our bamboo scoop is non-reactive and won’t affect flavour. It preserves Matcha’s vibrant colour and delicate taste. Metal spoons can introduce bitterness or clump the powder.

Yes – but gently. Wipe it clean with a dry cloth after each use. Avoid soaking or using soap, as this can damage the bamboo.

Scoop the Matcha gently from a container using the tip of the Chashaku. Avoid packing it too tightly. For lattes or strong brews, use 2–3 scoops, depending on preference.

Its curved, narrow shape makes it ideal for scooping Matcha from tight containers and sifting smoothly into bowls. It’s both functional and elegant – rooted in centuries of tea culture.
