3 Sustainable Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas

Whilst Christmas is undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year, it can also be one of the most wasteful.
The UK produces an additional 3 million tonnes of waste at Christmas and fills 100 million bin bags every year with over 114,000 tonnes of plastic gift packaging going to landfill in the UK alone!

That’s why we’ve put together 3 eco-friendly gift wrapping ideas that you can do with simple brown paper and other sustainable accessories.

1. The Classic Gift Wrapping

For this gift wrapping idea, you can simply wrap your present with brown paper, the traditional way and then use burlap, cotton yarn and a small branch for decoration.

You can watch the tutorial below:

2. Christmas Tree Design

Start off by wrapping your present as you normally would. Then stick one strip of double-sided tape down the middle.

Take a paper ribbon and fold it from left to right sticking it down in the middle and going wider the further down you go.

That’s your Christmas tree design done!

3. The “Fancy Fold” Gift Wrapping

This one requires a bit of practice, but it’s super satisfying once you’ve figured it out.

Here are the steps:

1. Make sure you have enough to fully cover the top and the sides
2. Fold up the bottom, almost covering the present
3. Fold in one side, making a crease
4. Do the same on the other side
5. Repeat
6. Cut off any excess paper.
7. Fold it up
8. Put a ribbon on it
